Toshiba DVR620

$180.00 Released April, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Good recorded image quality. VCR to DVD transfers - ideal for watching or updating old VHS tapes. 1080p upconversion.

The Cons:Simple looking. No built-in tuners - requires external tuners / cable box / etc... for recording. Cheap plastic DVD tray.

The Toshiba DR620 is a DVD recorder announced at the CES 2009 that features recording and playback abilities for DVD-R, -RW, +R, and +RW media disc formats. The third of four Toshiba D digital video recorders, the Toshiba DR620 is a competitive peer to the DR570 in that it features a DVD/VCR combination recorder (versus just DVD), but ditches its peer's ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuners.

In all other ways, however, the DR620 is practically a duplicate of its peer. For instance, the DR620 also offers HDMI-CEC for syncing entertainment devices to one remote. In addition, the DR620 boasts auto-finalization for formatting created-DVDs so that they can be played on other devices, 1080p up-conversion capabilities, and HDMI inputs for high-quality HD video playback. Slated to drop in April 2009, the Toshiba DR620 will retail for $179.99 (same as its peer) and come with a 1 year limited warranty.
