ReplayTV RTV5508

The RTV5508 is one of the more advanced digital video recorders from ReplayTV, which has now discontinued all hardware production. This 80-hour model and others in the 5500 series build on ReplayTV's 5000 series, still offering built-in networking and the ability to pause live TV, while adding features like instant replay, which jumps back 7 seconds in a recording.

The Commercial Advance feature, which skipped past all commercials at once, has been removed, however, replaced by a 30-second advance function, to skip past individual ads. Another added feature lets the 5508 record only new episodes of shows, ignoring repeats. Use of any ReplayTV unit requires a $12.95 monthly fee or $300 one-time charge.
